Hoffman Forest MetroPark |
|
Hoffman Forest Reserve is, as shown in our photos below, one of the hidden gems in the Erie Metropark system. A small 40 acre park that features two trails for walking/hiking plus picnic benches and a grill for cooking. It's not an easy reserve to locate but well worth the effort. It is lush green in the summer and richly colorful in the fall. Because some of the park is lowland, you might want to avoid it during the rainy spring season when many of the paths are wet and slippery. Hoffman Forest Reserve is located only a few miles from Milan - about halfway between Milan and Berlin Heights on Huff Road. |

The Huffman Forest Reserve is divided into two distinctly separate trails. The well marked north side trail known as "The Hoffman Trail" is a one mile trail with some steep inclines and wooden bridges that winds through the forest and meadows. The forest part of the trail is a narrow compacted uneven earth trial that leads through a dense forest area, winds through a grass meadow and then through another even denser forest area and ends up back at the parking lot. This is a beautiful trail although it will be difficult for some seniors to maneuver. The south trail known as "The Meadow Trail" is also a one mile trail and most of it is a flat trail through lush 10' wide grass meadows. There are several smaller inclines on this trail an one forested area that has a narrow, uneven trail. Both the Hoffman and Meadow trail share parts of the grass meadow walkway. The Meadow path is not as well marked as the other trail although the Meadow is more senior friendly. Both trails can be slippery during wet weather conditions so use of a walking stick is advisable. . |
